Bio
John Dunn is entering his fourth season (2025) as the head coach of the Lewis and Clark Trailblazer Men's Soccer Program. During his first 3 seasons the program has seen steady improvement on the field increasing wins and national rankings in each season. The Trailblazers have won the Region 24 regular season each of his 3 seasons in charge while winning the post season region championship in 2024. During fall 2024 the team reached a district final, coming just 1 game short of competing at the NJCAA DI National Tournament. Dunn has sent no less than 6 players to NCAA DI programs as well as top NCAA DII, III, and NAIA programs across the nation.
Prior to arriving in Godfrey, Dunn was the assistant coach at NCAA DI program SIUe during the 2021 season and assisted USL 2 team Fort Wayne FC during the same summer.
During his time with the Indiana Tech Warriors (2018-2020), he led the program to a 50-12-3 record. Dunn was twice named the WHAC Coach of the Year and garnered the United Soccer Coaches North Region Staff of the Year honors on two occasions as well. Tech won their first ever WHAC regular season crown under Dunn and transformed the program into a national tournament team. In total Indiana Tech won 2 WHAC regular season championships and 2 post season championships in 3 seasons during Dunn's tenure. He also coached 9 NAIA All-American's during his time in Fort Wayne.
Dunn moved to Fort Wayne following a nine-year stint as a player and coach at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, where he was the head men's soccer coach there from 2015-2018. The 2013 graduate of WVU Tech sports a 41-16-6 record as a head coach and guided his team to their first-ever conference championship in 2016 and the program's first-ever conference tournament championship in 2017. The Golden Bears qualified for the NAIA National Championship every season while he was at the helm, including their first-ever trip to the national tournament in 2015.
His 2016 team advanced all the way to the NAIA National Quarterfinals and finished with the most wins in program history (18). During his tenure in Beckley, West Virginia, he has coached five NAIA All-Americans, 29 Academic All-Conference (KIAC/RSC) selections and 17 All-Conference honorees.
While he was an assistant coach at WVU Tech, the team won back-to-back United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships in 2013 and 2014. During his playing career he captained the Golden Bears to the USCAA National Tournament Championship Final as a senior and garnered First-Team All-America and All-Tournament honors. He owns a 45-24-5 record as a goalkeeper and held eight WVU Tech records upon graduation.
Dunn holds his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "C" License and is a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma. While at WVU Tech he taught in the Sport Management department as an adjunct professor.
The native of Glenrothes, Scotland has a Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management from WVU Tech and obtained his Masters in Recreation and Sport Administration, with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration, from Western Kentucky University in 2016.
Dunn currently lives in Troy, IL with his wife, Alex, and two sons, Luka and Levi.
