Coach John Dunn Prepares Lewis and Clark Men’s Soccer for a Promising 2025-26 Season
GODFREY, IL – As the Lewis and Clark Community College men's soccer team kicks off its 2025-26 preseason, Head Coach John Dunn is entering the new season with optimism, a deep roster, and the ambition to build on last year's regional success.
Following a strong 2024 performance, the Trailblazers are focused on accountability and growth. Dunn emphasized that the offseason was a critical time for players to stay prepared.
"There's a lot of accountability in the summer," Dunn said. "Players either follow the workout packet or stay sharp by competing. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone arrives and what they bring to the table."
This season's roster includes 21 new players from a variety of backgrounds, one of the largest incoming classes in program history. With so many new faces, developing team chemistry quickly is essential. To support that, the team has a lineup of bonding events, including a St. Louis CITY SC fundraiser, a zoo visit, a bowling night, and a team cookout during preseason.
Leadership will be anchored by returning player Vitor Hennig, who has been named captain. He'll be supported by veterans like Raul Polo and Marco Lopez, both of whom bring key leadership qualities on and off the field.
On the tactical side, Dunn is focused on building a team that is both structured and adaptable. While the Trailblazers will stick to their core style of play, flexibility will be crucial depending on their matchups.
"We want to have a clear identity, but we also need to be able to adjust based on our strengths and the teams we face," said Dunn. "The goal is to be fluid and cohesive in every phase of the game."
The 2025 schedule presents early challenges, including a preseason match against NCAA Division I tournament team SIU Edwardsville, and games against three of last year's NJCAA Final Four teams. Dunn views these high-level opponents as an opportunity for growth.
"Our mental strength and resilience will be tested early," Dunn said. "That's going to be the biggest challenge, and it's something we're preparing for every day."
Looking ahead, Lewis and Clark has set its sights on competing at the national level. With a balanced mix of returning leadership and promising newcomers, the Trailblazers are prepared to push for a postseason run and beyond.
