Trailblazers Celebrate Sophomore Class with Region Victory
GODFREY, Ill. — The Lewis and Clark men's soccer team closed out its home slate in memorable fashion Wednesday night, earning a crucial region 1-0 win vs. SWIC while celebrating the impact of its sophomore class — a group that head coach John Dunn credits with reshaping the culture of the program.
The 2025 sophomore class includes Vitor Hennig (São Carlos, Brazil), Yago Monteaguedo (La Coruna, Spain), Miguel De Castro Miranda (Madrid, Spain), Javeir Lopez Medinaceli (Valencia, Spain), Raul Polo (Valencia, Spain), Marco Antonio Lopez Carranza (Quevedo, Ecuador), Josue Buitrago (Bogota, Colombia), Cameron Crook (County Tyrone, Northern Ireland), Joao Lutz Rocha (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Pierre Ulloa (Manabi, Ecuador) and Will Meyer (Carlinville, IL).
Dunn said this class has been instrumental in driving accountability and unity, helping the Trailblazers navigate challenges throughout the season.
"It has been a year of progress," Dunn said. "We have faced much adversity this year with some tough results and major injuries, but we have constantly fought together as a group. The culture of the team this year versus last year is completely different, and much of that is down to the sophomore group."
Dunn praised the sophomores for their leadership and maturity, noting that their influence extends far beyond the stat sheet.
"We have much more accountability in the group," he said. "I think this year will certainly leave the program in a far better spot on and off the field, and I hope the guys who are departing can look back with pride in the years to come as we continue to take positive forward steps."
Alex Brownlee provided the game-winning goal in the 25th minute, with an assist from Charlie Donaldson, to put the Trailblazers on top.
For the Trailblazers, Wednesday's region win was more than a result; it was a reflection of the growth, resilience, and leadership that this sophomore class brought to the program. Their legacy, Dunn said, will serve as the foundation for future success at Lewis and Clark.
