LC Women’s Basketball Set Sights on Deeper Run this Season
GODFREY, IL — With students back on campus and the new school year underway, Lewis & Clark women's basketball coach Isaac Moore says the energy is exactly what his team needs as it prepares for the upcoming season.
"I couldn't be more excited to have everyone on campus and create a more cohesive environment across the entire athletic department," Moore said. "The energy and camaraderie that's been built in just a short time is a great starting point for the season."
Moore said returning players and transfers have already stepped into leadership roles and are eager to build on last year's progress.
"I don't think any of the players have taken this year for granted and are ready to build upon what was started last year," he said.
The offseason was spent focusing on player development both on and off campus. Moore said he prioritized getting to know his athletes' backgrounds while connecting them with training opportunities across Missouri and Illinois. Workouts with former Webster Groves standout Matt Enright and Endure Hoops helped sharpen skills, while strength coach Dustin Duncan developed conditioning plans.
"My main focus this year is team chemistry and cohesion before getting to the work of the season," Moore said. "Haley Rodgers, Nathan Rodgers, and the rest of the staff have done a great job of doing individual work with players. Couldn't be happier to have them on board with us."
As preseason practices approach, Moore's emphasis will be on execution and efficiency.
"We need to be better at valuing possessions, guarding the middle third of the court, and running fluent offensive actions quickly," he said. "I typically rewatch the previous season three to four times prior to the first practice to evaluate what we need to keep and scrap."
Moore said he is especially excited to see the growth in leadership among his returning players.
"Defining culture is a coach's job, but maintaining and establishing culture is the role of the players," he said. "Those leaders have already begun to show their colors."
The Trailblazers enter the season with added depth, size and scoring ability compared to last year's squad. Moore credited the addition of several transfers who bring collegiate experience and expects that maturity to show early.
"This group is far deeper and more experienced than last year's team, who did a lot of things well," Moore said. "We brought in more shooting and scorers, plus some great transfers who all played meaningful minutes collegiately. We also were able to add quite a bit of size, which should help on the glass."
Moore said the team's goals include building on last season's win total, competing with the top programs in Region 24 and helping sophomores secure opportunities at four-year schools.
"I would love for our seven sophomore players to all find great landing spots to continue their academic and athletic careers after LC," Moore said. "With hard work and consistency, there's no reason these sophomores can't lead the program to new heights."
The Trailblazers open the season October 31, 2025, at Southeastern Community College, with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
