Trailblazers Earn Complete Team Win Over Greenville JV
GODFREY, Ill. — Lewis and Clark Community College women's basketball head coach Isaac Moore praised his team's effort and execution following a high-scoring win over Greenville University JV, calling it a "complete team win."
"Everyone played at least 12 minutes and did a great job of executing in the role asked of them throughout the game," Moore said. "In the end, our pace of play and toughness allowed us to finish a really high-scoring game against a good team and program."
Sophomore Aniston Mapes led the Trailblazers with 20 points on just 13 shots, while Abby Kreitner continued her strong start to the season, leading the team in offensive rebounds, assists, and steals. Moore also highlighted Milla Legette for her contributions on both ends of the floor.
"It was fantastic to see Milla contribute and play her role to perfection," Moore said. "Abby continues to prove what a winner she is, and Aniston was phenomenal tonight."
The Trailblazers faced an unexpected full-court press from Greenville, but responded well under pressure.
"We didn't expect them to press us and try to speed us up," Moore said. "La'Tasja, Abby, Aniston, Rachel, and Alana had to make plays for other people, and they did a fantastic job. It was awesome seeing our zone group really take pride and get stops down the stretch when players were in foul trouble."
As the team prepares for its upcoming trip to Michigan, Moore said the Trailblazers are focused on three key areas: limiting turnovers, holding opponents to one shot, and improving transition defense.
"We held Greenville to only four transition points, which was phenomenal," Moore said. "Unfortunately, Greenville dominated the offensive boards, and we turned the ball over 28 times. We'll need to keep developing in those areas if we want to get wins against some good opponents."
Despite the challenges ahead, Moore said he's encouraged by his team's growth mindset.
"I've been adamant with this team that it's a long season and we have to focus on being better every single day," he said. "These next four games are a great measuring stick for where we are as a team and what our identity is. Our goal is to be grateful for the opportunities we have at LC, to play tough, encourage each other and prioritize growth. I'm excited to see how that comes together on the trip."
