Trailblazers Sweep Doubleheader Against Southeastern Illinois, St. Louis CC
GODFREY, IL — The Lewis & Clark Trailblazers volleyball team came away with two wins Saturday, sweeping Southeastern Illinois College and defeating St. Louis Community College in four sets.
In the opening match, the Trailblazers relied on steady serving and strong serve receive to handle SIC in straight sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22. Head coach Jenna Brown pointed to the team's service game as a deciding factor.
"Our serving and our serve receive was on point," Brown said. "We had ten total aces for that match."
The Trailblazers carried their momentum into the second match against STLCC, winning 25-13, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19. Despite some swings in momentum, Brown said the team found a way to stay composed and finish strong.
"STLCC is an extremely scrappy team," Brown said. "We had some up and down moments but in the end, we were able to control our game and close it out."
Defensively, Lewis & Clark was led by Lauren Bertagnolli with 26 digs and Haili Pajares with 19. Offensively, Sarah Baldwin powered the attack with 22 kills across the two matches.
Brown credited her players for their focus throughout the doubleheader.
"The players on the court and bench were locked in for both sets," she said. "There was no lag time between the two, which was great to see. Players took the initiative to stay warm and play ready."
Looking ahead, Brown said the Trailblazers are continuing to refine their rhythm.
"Our defense and serving is getting stronger each day," she said. "We need to continue to work on our setter and hitter connections."
