Lewis and Clark Sweeps Spoon River in Conference Play
GODFREY, Ill. — Lewis and Clark Community College earned a key conference win Wednesday night, sweeping Spoon River College 25-13, 25-17, 25-17 behind a dominant offensive performance and steady energy on the court.
Head coach Jenna Brown credited her team's focus and communication as the difference in the match.
"My message to the team was to play this game like it could be their last and to commit to that feeling every point," Brown said. "They did an excellent job responding to this message. Energy and communication were consistent. We played with confidence and a flow, which was great to see."
The Trailblazers maintained momentum throughout the match, with Brown emphasizing verbal reminders to keep the players locked in.
"I was giving them verbal reminders frequently by simply saying 'stay committed, '" Brown said. "They responded by staying focused. We dominated with our offense by swinging aggressively at all times, and that made a big difference for us."
Brown noted that her goals moving forward include helping her hitters continue to build confidence at the net and strengthen their connection with setters.
For Lewis and Clark, the sweep not only boosted morale but also provided a crucial step toward postseason aspirations.
"Getting the 3-0 sweep was a huge confidence builder, and it will hopefully put us in a better position to have a shot at district play," Brown said.
The Trailblazers play against Wabash Valley College and St. Louis Community College on Friday, October 3, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
